Marcia Dixon reports on the voice-online.co.uk about the recording of a charity single by UK Christian artists to raise money for the survivors of the Haitian earthquake.

It was a day to remember. Over 250 of Britain’s leading gospel artists, plus members of various choirs from across the UK gathered at the world famous Abbey Road studios in St John’s Wood, London to record a charity single, Somebody Please, to raise money for survivors of the Haitian earthquake.

‘Somebody Please’, is a track originally recorded last year by US Gospel star Israel Houghton who wrote the song with leading UK praise and worship artist Noel Robinson.

The track featured on One Voice, a compilation CD released by Kingsway Music last year.

However the album’s executive producers Lawrence Johnson and Les Moir decided to re record the track with the addition of the leading names on the UK gospel scene in a bid to raise money for the island’s earthquake survivors.

The Urban Music Awards through IMG have helped build and solidify the UK urban music scene for over 10 years and several of the acts  nurtured by the UMA have gone on to reign top 10 in the charts. From Dizzee Rascal and M.I.A nominated and winning in 2003 to Alexander Burke in 2004 and not forgetting JLS being crowned ‘Best Unsigned Act’ in 2007. The Urban Music Awards has always been the place to find out past, present and future rising stars.

Jordan Kensington, CEO, of Urban Music Awards and IMG added, “This year, we celebrate UK urban music going pop. There is no denying when we launched IMG in 1999 to support one hundred per cent UK acts, there was hardly any awards show or platform in support for UK music.

Artist Victizzle 2 Source

Hello victor, so glad you are able to do this interview with us today, how are you doing?

I’m great! Thanks so much for having me.

Can you give the readers some background information about yourself and what do you do?

Well I’m a Music Producer and Artist. I’m 19 and I’m in my 2nd year of University going into 3rd, studying Music and Media Management, And most importantly I’m a Christian and I’ve chosen to use music to help people living in struggle and pain but at the same time make people smile, laugh and have fun in life.

So how do you cope with university workload and being an artist?

NOT EASY mate…it’s very tough but i study what is related to what i do as a career so it really helps my music life. I’ve had to sacrifice so much but it’s always been worth it.

What does it mean to you to be a Christian artist?

It means Standing Out for what is right, Leading the way and not following the crowd, being different but unique in the way God made you. Representing Jesus! Having fun also (Laughter)
