Pat Robertson, the American Christian televangelist and host of “The 700 Club,” said that Haitians need to have a “great turning to god” while he was reporting on the devastating 7.0 earthquake that shook the island nation – the most powerful to hit the country in a century.

As Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive said “well over” 100,000 people may have died in the natural disaster, Robertson took to the airwaves Wednesday on his show and said that the country has been “cursed by one thing after another” since they “swore a pact to the devil.”

“Something happened a long time ago in Haiti and people might not want to talk about,” Robertson said Tuesday.

“They were under the heel of the French, you know Napoleon the third and whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said ‘We will serve you if you will get us free from the prince.’ True story. And so the devil said, ‘Ok it’s a deal.’ And they kicked the French out. The Haitians revolted and got something themselves free. But ever since they have been cursed by one thing after another,” Robertson said.

The future of Christian bookshop chain, Wesley Owen, hangs in the balance after parent company IBS-STL announced Friday (18th December) it had gone into administration.

Russell S Cash and Don Bailey of Baker Tilly Restructuring and Recovery have been appointed joint administrators. In November, Baker Tilly was brought in to “pursue the sale” of its operations after it experienced a succession of financial problems.

Although it is yet to be confirmed, reports have said that Christian Literature Crusade, a chain comprising 15 Christian bookshops, has purchased six stores. Also according to the reports, Christian bookseller Koorong has bought a similar number of shops.

David Young, IBS-STL’s UK general manager had previously told The Bookseller that there had been a “significant level of interest” from buyers for the bookselling chain.

IBS-STL UK has three trading divisions: Authentic Media, a book and music publisher; STL Distribution, a distributor of Christian resources and Wesley Owen Books and Music, a retailer with 40 shops in the UK. The charity employs 490 people.

JASON HOYTE, UK GOSPEL SINGER GUILTYA convicted paedophile fired from his job with Lambeth Council after he was charged with sexual abuse has tried to sue the local authority for damages claiming he was wrongly dismissed.

Jason Hoyte, 38, who was found guilty at Inner London Crown Court on November 6 of sexually abusing six girls, one as young as four, over a 20 year period, was looking for damages in a case of unfair dismissal. His case, heard at an employment tribunal in Croydon on last Monday was rejected by the tribunal judge.

A family member branded Hoyte’s decision to take court action as “unbelievably arrogant” and “an insult to his victims”.

When charged with the sexual offences last October, musician Hoyte was sacked by Lambeth from his position as a centre development assistant based in the council’s library service. He was found guilty of two counts of sexual activity with a child relating to teenage girls he groomed while also working as a youth worker on a council-funded scheme in West Norwood.

The assaults, as well as 14 counts of indecent assault that took place when Hoyte was a teenager, were on girls he had met by befriending their parents at churches in West Norwood, Upper Norwood and Brixton. But despite his convictions, the former youth worker still pursued Lambeth for unfair dismissal.

His relative, who did not want to be named, said: “It shows he is still in denial of what he has done. It is as if he still feels society owes him something, but he is a convicted paedophile. To have the arrogance to do this tells you what kind of a person he is.”

Lambeth Council chose not to comment on Hoyte’s decision to go to a tribunal but a spokesman said the council was “confident of the grounds under which Jason Hoyte’s employment was terminated” and “clearly the employment tribunal was of the same view”. Hoyte, who was not represented at the hearing, did not appear because he is in custody awaiting sentencing.

A formal written judgement from the tribunal judge is expected in the next six weeks. Gipsy Hill councillor Graham Pycock, who has criticised the council for not doing more to detect Hoyte’s abuse of children, called his application for wrongful dismissal “outrageous”. He added: “He lived a charmed life with the council and because of that treatment he still feels he can run rings around them.”

Coun Pycock has continued to demand why Lambeth Council did not actively seek to check Hoyte’s CRB status when his youth organisation was given a grant by the council.

The musician had faced charges of indecent assault from 1989 which were dropped against him but could have showed up in an advanced CRB check.

A council spokesman said the council had “strict and robust policies in place to protect children and young people” and Hoyte had worked with children through a privately run organisation which provided youth services within West Norwood.

Are You Good without God 1

REPORT TAKEN FROM gothamist.com
The campaign will take over 20 Manhattan buses for about one month, and president of New York City Atheists, Ken Bronstein, says the test run could be reaching other boroughs later this year (the group’s website is taking donations for the next roll out). The ads read: “You don’t have to believe in God to be a moral and ethical person.”

Joseph Zwilling, the director of communications for the Archdiocese of New York, told CityRoom the ads were “not offensive in the Catholic Church’s view, given their wording. They’re not attacking or disparaging the Church as far as I can see.” While the message isn’t a rebuttal to that of another religious group’s, the site reports that the inspiration came from a similar campaign in London last year, which was in response to a Christian group’s whose message told nonbelievers that they would “spend all eternity in torment.”

The goal of the $10,000 NYC ad campaign is to increase membership—Bronstein says there has been an “atheism awakening” lately, and the practice was made more acceptable when President Obama included a reference to “nonbelievers” in his inaugural address. Previously, the MTA explained that the Jews for Jesus ads in the Times Square subway station were protected under the First Amendment.

Are You Good without God Report Taken from townhall.com

An anonymous donor is apparently donating thousands of dollars for the express purpose of advertising atheism in the New York City subway system. According to blogger Gothamist, yesterday kicked-off a month-long advertising blitz in a dozen Manhattan subway stations with signs advertising the slogan, “A Million New Yorkers Are Good Without God. Are You?”

In addition to promoting godlessness, the advertising will reportedly also be promoting a new book called Good Without God, by Greg Epstein.

The ads are being coordinated by “New York City Coalition for Reason,” an umbrella organization comprised of local atheist groups, City Room reports. According to their website, “All Big Apple COR organizations share common ground—promoting wider acceptance of a more rational and realistic view of the universe—but each has its own particular emphasis. Some advocate for scientific knowledge, reason, and skeptical inquiry. Some focus on the promotion of dogma-free humanist ethics, and an appreciation for life and the lives of other persons.”

New York isn’t the only city being targeted by these outspoken atheists. Chicagoist is also reporting on billboards that have popped-up in the Windy City: The billboard, located at LaSalle and Grand and paid for by the Chicago Coalition For Reason, says, “Are You Good Without God? Millions Are.”

The CCoR describes itself as “an exciting group of organizations in the Chicago area, each of which celebrates a human-centered and naturalistic approach to life. For us, non-dogmatic and rational approaches to ethics, culture and the human experience are the most meaningful and satisfying.”

JASON HOYTE, UK GOSPEL SINGER GUILTYJason Hoyte a married dad of two was yesterday found guilty of sexually assaulting young girls over a 20 year period. He was found guilty of one count of sexual activity with a child involving penetration, one count of sexual activity with a child not involving penetration, and 14 counts of indecent assault but was not found guilty of several other charges.

Hoyte was caught when he was invited to a celebration event at a church which he had previously been banned from after a church leader found inappropriate messages from Hoyte on a young girl’s mobile phone. It is likely that he could be jailed indefinitely.

During the trial Hoiyte was referred to as a predatory paedophile who moved from church to church and sexually abused young girls in the various churches he attended without remorse.

He admitted sending a text message to one girl saying that he loved her, and mentioned that another youngster had a crush on him, but said no other activities had taken place and continues to claim his innocence.

Your Thoughts at Jclondon.com

David Kinnaman, the Barna Group president who oversaw the research between 2006 and 2009, said that the younger generation’s reliance on social networking and interpersonal relationships is an indication future generations will distance themselves further from the Bible if their societal interpretations are discounted.

“The central theme of young people’s approach to the Bible is skepticism,” Kinnaman said. “They question the Bible’s history as well as its relevance to their lives, leading many young people to reject the Bible as containing everything one needs to live a meaningful life. This mindset certainly has its challenges, but it also raises the *With each generation of young people there seems to be a greater need to question authority. A recent study shows when it comes to the Bible that need is no different. According to Christian Everyday, a new survey by the Barna Group Christian research firm reveals that different generations of Americans read and interpret the Bible differently. possibility of using their skepticism as an entry point to teaching and exploring the content of the Bible in new ways.”

Similarities across age ranges show that a vast majority consider the Bible a sacred text. Also, similar proportions regardless of age subscribe to the polar opposite views that the Bible is infallible or that it is not inspired by God.

Read the Remarkable Story of Woman with One Leg Serving Sudanese Orphans

Termites for dinner. Bombs in the backyard. A nation torn by decades of war still on the brink. Can one life really make a difference?

Born without her left hip and leg, Michele Perry is no stranger to seeming impossibilities. So when she arrived in war-torn Southern Sudan with little more than her faith in God’s promises she did what everyone told her was crazy: she opened a home for orphaned children in the middle of guerilla warfare territory and has now become “mama” to over one hundred little lives.

Michele Perry

“How did I wind up here doing this?” asks Perry. “I began a journey. I said yes to a downward trail of humility to find His heart, to find what is really real. I prayed a dangerous prayer a little over a decade ago: Jesus, teach me how to love.” And He did.

With a deft pen, she recounts unforgettable stories of life in the bush, stories that capture the reader with the stark realities of living in a war zone and the power of God’s love to transform them. “I am no super saint,” says Perry. “There are moments a hot shower would be lovely, but it cannot compare to being in the middle of God’s dreams.”

Her own story is just as compelling as the ministry she is living. From working in the slums of India to finding her home in war-ravaged Africa, Michele’s life has been a journey deeper into the supernatural power of God. A journey she eagerly invites readers to join.

“All journeys that really matter start deep inside us,” says Perry. “Yet no matter where in the world we reside, it is this journey into God’s heart that will lead us home.”

keep the noise downLOCAL COUNCILS ISSUE NOISE ABATEMENT NOTICES TO CHURCHES

In an extraordinary decision, All Nations Church in Kennington, South London, has been served with a noise abatement notice by Lambeth council after complaints from a couple of local residents about the level of noise coming from the church.

This is the first complaint that the church has received since it began meeting at the premises in the 1960s. Church leaders have been ordered not to amplify its music or sermons – something which will make worship very difficult for the 600-strong congregation – some of whom are elderly and hard of hearing.

The decision, which imposes a restriction on the freedom of expression of religion will, according to one of the church’s pastors, Victor Jibuike, seriously affect the congregation and potentially mean that some members will leave and worship elsewhere – something he does not want to see.
