Just in time for Easter and Passover, Random House has released This Little Prayer of Mine, the first children’s book by best-selling author Anthony DeStefano. The picture book, illustrated by renowned artist Mark Elliott to evoke a simpler time before children texted, Googled and Tweeted, gives children and their parents the words they can use as they open a conversation with God.

DeStefano appeared on the Fox program “America’s Newsroom” on March 1 and proved to be an extremely engaging guest.

This Little Prayer of Mine has been officially endorsed by The National Day of Prayer, as well as entertainer Pat Boone, and Dr Bernice King, daughter of Dr Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King.

This week sees the publication of a book called ‘Marry Him: The case for Settling for Mr Good Enough.’

Written by a Lori Gottileb a 40 year old single mother, the book encourages single women in their late 20s to get a move on to find Mr Right or they might spend the rest of their lives on their own if they don’t find him by 30.

Gottileb puts paid to the myth of women finding ‘The One’, stating its a lie fueled by Hollywood and romantic fiction and encourages singletons to settle for and marry men that are OK – men who treat them nice, have a job and want to settle down.

She states she wished that she had settled for any of the perfectly acceptable but uninspiring men she rejected during her search for the perfect man. “We grew up idealising marriage, but we’d had a more realistic understanding of its cold, hard benefits, we might have done things differently, so we walked away from uninspiring relationships that might have made us happy. What make a a good marriage isn’t necessarily what makes a good romantic relationship.”

She also goes on to say that if you were to ask any honest 40+ single woman what she most longs for in life she is likely to say a husband and a family. “Every woman I know – no matter how successful and ambitious, financially and emotionally secure – feels panic coupled with desperation if hits 30 and is not married.”

THIS insightful book is the result of a 10-year quest by author Steve Smith to discover the origins and development of gospel music in Britain. Written in first-person, Smith believes this music’s history should be documented and merits the attention already given to calypso, ska and reggae, all of which – like black British gospel – owe their presence in Britain to Afro-Caribbean immigration.

Using interesting illustrations and commentary by gospel artists, Smith pinpoints key movements in the music, beginning with a UK visit in 1873 of the black American Fisk Jubilee singers, and ending with speculations about British gospel music’s future directions.

Street Pastors by Less Issac

STREET PASTORS: Taking Kindness And Love To The Streets

This book is about the birth and growth of the Street Pastors initiative in the UK

Britain’s late-night street stories are familiar to all: binge drinking, loneliness, gang culture, knife and gun crime, violence and fear. Barely a week goes by without another incident breaking on the news. But that’s not the whole story. Since 2003 a new breed of help has been on hand to dispel the tension and bring some desperately needed hope back to our urban communities. These are the Street Pastors, and the brand new book from Les Isaac tells their story from the man at the heart of it all.

It was back in 2003, against a background of sensational headlines and increasing fear, that Les Isaac was part of a group of eighteen concerned individuals who decided to do something about the chaos, setting up the country’s first street pastor’s scheme in Brixton, London. Six years later there are over 125 Street Pastors teams at work around the country, with more than 3,000 Christians involved.

Les Issac Street Pastor

According to the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, this is a significant book: ‘Les Isaac’s story of how he founded and developed Street Pastors is an example of faith in action and emblematic of building up the kingdom of god. ‘Street Pastors’ works because it recognises both our common humanity and common responsibility in bringing hope to the communities we share. This story should serve as a source of inspiration for all who work to restore society, to raise the fallen and to help our young people know the warmth of God’s love and welcome.’

Starting with the events and experiences that shaped Les’s thinking, the book narrates the story in detail, but also introduces the challenge facing the Church throughout the UK: how can we be distinctively Christian at the same time as developing partnerships outside of the Church? Les Isaac is convinced that this is not only possible, but vitally important. Over the past seven years he has witnessed tremendous unity as teams of Christians have put aside theological differences and committed themselves to sacrificial help of our communities.

paula white deal with it

Paula White co-pastors the 18,000-member Without Walls International Church, based in Tampla. She also runs Paula White Ministries and hosts the nationally syndicated television program, “Paula White Today.” Her new book, “Deal With It!” (Thomas Nelson) explains how 10 women of the Bible–some well known, some more obscure–can help women confront their emotional, sexual, and professional issues. White spoke with Beliefnet about the own issues she has confronted, how women of the Bible have helped her, and her ministry work.

pastor Paula whiteWhat was your inspiration for writing this book?
Mainly it was to equip people to manifest the greatness that is inside of them. I believe there are seeds of potential greatness in all of us. There were some defining moments that happened in my life that enabled me to identify, conquer, and confront the issues of my life. Every one of us has to answer, “Who am I? What am I? Why am I?” And then, “How do I get there? How do I do it? How do I become it?”

I know some of those moments in your own life are of a very personal nature, but can you explain briefly what your background was like?
Oh, absolutely. It’s all out to hang. Many people know my testimony. When I was five years old, my father committed suicide. From age six to 13 I was sexually and physically abused. I had never heard the gospel until I was 18 years old, and I had not been in church. Then I was at a friend’s house, and his uncle said, “I can give you the answer to the love you’re looking for and for the hope you need.” He led me to Christ–I heard the gospel for the first time my life was radically changed. But I found out it’s a process with many defining moments. God gave a vision, and I didn’t even know what a vision was, and I have not read the word of God. I just knew my life was suddenly radically changed.

Author Jessie Rice

Author Jesse Rice

A revolution is taking place, one profile at a time. Online social networks like Facebook and MySpace are connecting people like never before. With hundreds of millions of users, they’re creating almost limitless potential to redefine our personal worlds. It’s a movement that’s changing how we form relationships, perceive others, and shape our identity.

In his new book, The Church of Facebook (David C Cook, October 2009) author Jesse Rice takes a deeper look at the movement which, at its core, reflects our need for community. “Our longing for intimacy, connection, and a place to belong has never been a secret, but social networking offers us a new perspective on the way we engage our community,” Rice states. This new perspective raises new questions: How do these networks impact our relationships? In what ways are they shaping the way we think of ourselves? And how might this phenomenon subtly reflect a God who longs to connect with each one of us?

Read the Remarkable Story of Woman with One Leg Serving Sudanese Orphans

Termites for dinner. Bombs in the backyard. A nation torn by decades of war still on the brink. Can one life really make a difference?

Born without her left hip and leg, Michele Perry is no stranger to seeming impossibilities. So when she arrived in war-torn Southern Sudan with little more than her faith in God’s promises she did what everyone told her was crazy: she opened a home for orphaned children in the middle of guerilla warfare territory and has now become “mama” to over one hundred little lives.

Michele Perry

“How did I wind up here doing this?” asks Perry. “I began a journey. I said yes to a downward trail of humility to find His heart, to find what is really real. I prayed a dangerous prayer a little over a decade ago: Jesus, teach me how to love.” And He did.

With a deft pen, she recounts unforgettable stories of life in the bush, stories that capture the reader with the stark realities of living in a war zone and the power of God’s love to transform them. “I am no super saint,” says Perry. “There are moments a hot shower would be lovely, but it cannot compare to being in the middle of God’s dreams.”

Her own story is just as compelling as the ministry she is living. From working in the slums of India to finding her home in war-ravaged Africa, Michele’s life has been a journey deeper into the supernatural power of God. A journey she eagerly invites readers to join.

“All journeys that really matter start deep inside us,” says Perry. “Yet no matter where in the world we reside, it is this journey into God’s heart that will lead us home.”
