A Christian choir director who’s experienced miraculous healing from cancer, has encouraged her choir to organise a fundraising ball to raise money for of Mercy Ships, a floating hospital that provides free medical care for people living in the developing world.

Marcia McPherson, along with members of her choir, the Beechcroft Chapel Choir based at Tooting New Testament Assembly, are hosting The Mercy Ship Black and White Fundraising Ball taking place on Saturday 11th September at Battersea Town Hall, south London. Pastor Nim Obunge will serve as MC for the event and special guests include Blessed Voices.

It was in 2004 that Marcia McPherson first heard about Mercy Ships work. She said, “I was introduced to the work of Mercy Ships by Dr Keith Thompson, a volunteer on the ship and was greatly impressed by the work they do providing free medical care for some of the world’s poorest people via their ship.”

She got the opportunity to witness first-hand the charity’s work when it was moored in Liberia two years ago. The visit served to reinforce Marcia’s belief that Mercy Ships was a charity worth supporting.

She shared, “Good health is one of life’s most important blessings and I should know. I was diagnosed with cancer 22 years ago, and was told by doctors there was nothing they could do for me and they sent me home to die. Fortunately I received prayer at the church I now attend and as a result was miraculously healing from my illness. “

“I’m supportive of Mercy Ship’s work because is it a Christian charity that performs transformative work by giving people a new lease of life by providing free medical care. One of the things that make life worth living is good health.”

The 2009 Black and White charity ball raised £4000. Marcia hopes that this year’s ball raises more money. “The money is going towards good cause so we want to raise us much money as we can.”

The Beechcroft Chapel Choir are giving you the opportunity to dress up, enjoy a three course meal, first class entertainment and a gospel DJ spinning the latest sounds at their third annual fundraising Black Tie Charity Ball. All money raised will go to Mercy Ships, a Christian charity that provides free health care to the world’s poorest people.

A coalition of Black leaders including church leaders, business leaders, activists, faith groups, Operation Black Vote, The Peace Alliance, 1990 Trust, Just West Yorkshire, Equanomics UK, The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), BEN TV, OHTV and many others will be hosting the largest political rally seen in the UK for a generation.

Over 2000 people will be at the rally itself, which will be syndicated to more than a million black people via the vast BME media network and other National media corporations.

The main stream party political leaders have been invited and indicated they would like to be there.

In a closely fought political race, the Black vote: African, Asian, Caribbean and other ethnic minorities will hold the key to who wins and who loses this election.

This then is our time, our unique opportunity to have a powerful voice during this election campaign. Our call will be for justice, and equality of opportunity in all areas at all levels of society, not least in education.

The theme for this year’s Convention is “The Power and the Glory”. At a time when many believers, like the rest of our neighbours, are currently going through a period of lack and discouragement, it is time to remind ourselves that despite all the circumstances of our daily living and current world conditions, as children of God, we can position ourselves to see (and experience) ‘the power and glory of God’ in our lives.

This year’s Convention will also feature several workshops/seminars on: Immigration; Marriage enrichment; Finance/Debt Management; Youth Empowerment (knife & gun awareness & developing the mind of success) and Entrepreneurship.
