The highly-anticipated return of the Soul Train Awards was not an event taken lightly. From the very vein that Soul Train finds its lifeblood, the past and the present were bridged in perfect harmony. The tribute performances were the highlight of the evening. However, the show’s two uber-animated hosts, Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard, did their fair share of bringing a fun, lighthearted air to the event.
The show began with a blond-tressed Toni Braxton, playing the piano for her duet with Trey Songz. It was a steamy and flirty performance, that of course reached its apex when Trey gave Toni a passionate kiss. It was brief, but definitely enough to surprise the audience and prepare them for the excitement of what was to come.Terrence and Taraji did some singing of their own with a rendition of Peaches and Herb’s “Reunited,” before they proceeded into the first of many hilarious skits that would punctuate the broadcast. The pair’s biggest moment came near the end of the show. Taraji exited the stage after coyly accepting a chain and pendant from Terrance. She then ran back onto the stage and gave him a long, passionate kiss—even slipping in some visible tongue.

Their latest American Music Award win helps Mary Mary close out 2009 in style. They have already won a Grammy® Award, a Dove Award, an NAACP Image Award and a BET Award for their latest album, The Sound, which has spent 52 weeks on a Billboard chart and is still #10. This is the highest rank for a song that has spent 52 weeks on a chart in the Nielson SoundScan era (since 1992). The Sound peaked at #1 on several of Billboard Christian and Gospel albums charts and was #1 on the Billboard Gospel Album chart for 19 consecutive weeks after its release in October 2008, spending four weeks at #1 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart.
The 2009 American Music Awards took place at the NOKIA Theatre L.A. on Sunday, November 22nd on ABC. Gospel artists Jeremy Camp, Brandon Heath, and Mary Mary received nominations for Contemporary Inspirational, while Mary Mary was also nominated for Soul/R&B.

The UMA’s (Urban Music Awards) returns to the UK to celebrate its 7th anniversary after a successful show in New York earlier on in July this year.
Newcomer, Alexander Burke who is back with a debut album celebrates a record three nominations whilst Tinchy Stryder, JLS, and Mr Hudson all receive nominations for a year that has been truly successful for urban music.
Last Year UMA Awards
Calvin Harris, Basement Jaxx, Dizzie Rascal, David Guetta, Tinchy Stryder, Alexander Burke, Egypt, Cascada, Mr Hudson, Daniel Merriweather all receive nominations at this year’s 7th annual Urban Music Awards.

The Urban Music Awards through IMG have helped build and solidify the UK urban music scene for over 10 years and several of the acts nurtured by the UMA have gone on to reign top 10 in the charts. From Dizzee Rascal and M.I.A nominated and winning in 2003 to Alexander Burke in 2004 and not forgetting JLS being crowned ‘Best Unsigned Act’ in 2007. The Urban Music Awards has always been the place to find out past, present and future rising stars.
Jordan Kensington, CEO, of Urban Music Awards and IMG added, “This year, we celebrate UK urban music going pop. There is no denying when we launched IMG in 1999 to support one hundred per cent UK acts, there was hardly any awards show or platform in support for UK music.

- Jordan Kensington

J-Factor is a successful gospel talent show, founded by a group of young professionals eager to see talented people encouraged and nurtured. This year’s forthcoming competition marks the third of its kind running since 2007. J-Factor aims to discover, nurture and showcase the vocal talents of aspiring singers whilst providing them with a launch pad to the music industry; much of our activities are currently done under the auspices of Jesus House, London.

Our finalists
They have featured fifteen talented finalists (from about sixty auditions) and produced two winners – Nwando in 2007 and Tito in 2008.
The winner gets the chance to record a single record; Nwando recorded a single titled “Run to You” in Chicago USA, and Tito recorded a single, “Superman”, which was launched in July 2009 and is now available for online download via itunes.
Runners-up have been approached by diverse interest groups – to record on albums, perform at functions, amongst others. As we continue to grow, we hope to extend the impact J-Factor provides by engaging finalists in a variety of talent management initiatives – which might entail workshops on song writing, worship, recording, etc.
The show
The show usually sells out at 800 guests and runs for about 4 hours. It is structured in 3 exciting rounds with the judges and audience playing an active part in voting process. Guest performance is usually by the previous year’s winner amongst others.
THIS IS HOW IT HAPPENED…
Michelle Mckinney Hammond (A JUDGE) takes to the stage to speak to the final four contestants.
“You are ALL winners” she says, but not in the trite way that is the custom in most talent contests. By coming this far, the JFactor contestants have proclaimed to the world that they will share the gift that God bestowed on them.
The house lights are dimmed, the audience is hushed, and the mood is very still… It is time for the finalists to be announced. The only movement in the room is Mark, the host – the only one who knows… He announces – FALLON! The audience go mad in applause! Back to Mark, “And – BIM!” Massive uproar from the audience ensues!
Uduak and Matthew are congratulated and led off the stage. Bim takes to the stage to perform the Rockhill-produced finalists song Until That Day Comes. Fallon takes to the stage immediately after to render her version of the same song.
Another round of voting by the audience to determine who will be the next JFactor winner.
AND THE WINNER IS...
Without further a-do, the winner of JFactor 2009 is announced. And the winner is -
FALLON!!!

Beyonce thrilled patients at a cancer ward in Singapore. The R&B superstar visited the National University Hospital and sang an acoustic version of her hit Halo. Beyonce said: “We came here to do a little performance and I brought some members of my band.” Beyonce’s hospital visit was followed by a trip to the track with the children as Bernie Ecclestone, CEO of Formula One, and Christina Ong, patron of Singapore’s Children’s Cancer Foundation, invited the kids to the paddock. A spokesman from the Children’s Cancer Foundation said the children had “the best day of their lives.” The ward invited a few previous patients and a lot of current patients and their family to see her. She even signed a few autographs and went to talk to a few of the patients in the ward.
A You Tuber who filmed the video below says “There were a lot of people singing along and screaming, it was so funny! The doctors and nurses I think were the most excited. There were a few people who even stood on the counters. LOL.”
